Crafted with care for the land
At Swings and Roundabouts, we take enormous pride in the incredible patch of land we call home in Australia’s Margaret River region. When you enjoy a glass or bottle of Swings and Roundabouts wine, you can enjoy it knowing that the utmost care and respect has been given to the land it was produced on.
It is our intention to be passionate caretakers for the land and produce high quality, sustainable wines from now and into the future - which is why Swings and Roundabouts is a Vineyard Member of Sustainable Winegrowing Australia.
“I’m passionate about sustainability, it is our duty to protect our natural resources while going about our daily business. We are fortunate to live in a biodiversity hotspot and it is our responsibility as the custodians of the land to look after it, preserving and strengthening ecosystems, leaving it a better place for future generations”
- Jodie Barton, Chief Winemaker, Swings and Roundabouts
What does it mean to choose sustainably made wine?
There are many measures that wine producers can take to be more sustainable in growing, production and distribution. Some examples include:
- Prioritising water efficiency
- Creating less waste
- Supporting local communities
- Prioritising energy efficiency
- Enhancing Australian biodiversity
- Looking after the land
These are just some of the steps we have taken at Swings and Roundabouts, in addition to annual sustainability reporting, to retain our membership with Sustainable Winegrowing Australia.
We are committed to and recognise the importance of environmental, social and economic sustainability, not only for Swings and Roundabouts, but the Australian wine industry as a whole.
Sustainable winemaking in the Margaret River region
The Sustainable Winemaking Australia 2022 Impact Report shows that there has been plenty of growth and support of the Sustainable Winegrowing Australia program in the Margaret River region. Memberships have grown from 18 members in 2020, to 51 certified members in 2022.
At present the Margaret River Wine Association is progressing towards its ambitious goal to achieve 100% of members compliant to the national Sustainable Winegrowing Australia program, and 50% certified by December 2025.
